Drugstore Dupes for High End Makeup | www.annemariemitchell.com

Drugstore products just seem to be getting better and better. I’ve noticed a definite shift upwards concerning quality over my years of stalking the drugstore savannah–and I like what I see.

Almost every cosmetics giant nowadays owns another makeup brand or two–or ten–so it should come as no surprise that to keep things simple, they just produce their drugstore brands right alongside their high end ones. In the same factory. Using much of the same ingredients. Just L’Oreal by itself owns Lancome, Giorgio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent, Urban Decay, Clarisonic…the list goes on and on. So to cut to the chase, almost every drugstore product you see today can be used as a budget-friendly dupe for one of your favorite high end products.

It’s this reasoning that keeps me coming back to my beloved drugstore rather than pouring my wallet–and half an arm and leg–into the gaping mouth of many higher end brands. Not gonna lie, it’s hard to justify the cost when I’ve had so many great experiences with drugstore products which are often very similar to my high end faves. Have I lost my love for luxurious packaging, presentation, and the grander things in life? Hell no.

But is Walgreens around the corner while the department store is on the other side of the planet? Hell YES girlfriend.

My sick obsession with beauty products has allowed me the chance to sift through quite a bit of the drugstore products available today. Of recent, I’ve discovered a few drugstore dupes for high end makeup worth mentioning:

L’Oreal True Match {instead of} Makeup Forever HD Foundation The finish of these foundations are remarkably similar, if not identical. Both formulas lay in the wonderful middle ground just between dewy and matte that creates a believable skin-like appearance. Both foundations are a medium coverage that is easily buildable to a heavy finish to hide any imperfections. They even both boast a huge array of colors to choose from that suit multiple shades of warm, cool and neutral skin tones. The Makeup Forever HD seems to hold up slightly better worn over a long period of time and in hot weather but the best dupe I’ve found to date is definitely the L’Oreal True Match.

Maybelline Define-A-Brow {instead of} Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz I can’t lie to you. If you have the budget for it, the Anastasia Brow Wiz is the way to go, but Maybelline definitely made a worthy opponent. Both products create a natural, defined looking brow with a convenient retractable tip that doesn’t need to be sharpened. My biggest beef with the Maybelline pencil is that it’s much harder to twist the top while the brow wiz swivels with ease. I also seem to have trouble with the tip breaking off from time to time with the dreaded feeling of wasting product. There is just something slightly more magical and user-friendly about the Anastasia Brow Wiz that makes it the “better” product to me, but definitely give the Maybelline one a shot!

Maybelline Color Sensational Lipsticks {instead of} Chanel Rouge Coco Lipsticks I couldn’t believe the similarity in texture and finish when I swatched some of these lipsticks side by side. I mean come ON it’s Chanel after all…literally the Regina George, queen of all the land concerning the makeup industry. I kid you not though, the Maybelline Color Sensational Lipsticks come really close. Both are super hydrating, have a nice floral-fruity scent (Chanel smells like real rose petals though) and have a gorgeous, creamy finish. I even found dupes concerning color and finish–Maybelline “Warm Me Up” and Chanel “Camèlia.” The Maybelline lipstick is slightly pinker, but they are both a gorgeous rose-mauve shade.
