Winter Skincare Tips | www.annemariemitchell.com

With the air getting colder– and Starbucks acquiring their holiday menu minions–it’s time to change up our skin care. Dry, cracked skin ain’t a good look on most so I’ve whipped out my favorite winter skin care tips to relieve and soothe even your toughest winter woes.

SAY HELLO TO A GENTLE CLEANSER

Harsh chemicals and scents found in many cleansers can really strip the skin during the winter–leaving it dry and dull. Try to avoid heavy acne cleaners or intense toners and instead opt out for a gentle, rich cleanser. I’m loving Origins Checks and Balances Cleanser for a deep-down rinse that leaves my face smooth and supple.

LOCK IN MOISTURE WITH AN OIL-BASED MOISTURIZER

Water-based moisturizers just don’t cut it in the winter months. Oil-based moisturizers do a much better job at sealing in moisture and keeping it there for hours. First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream is my absolute MUST-have. It will cure even the toughest dry skin problems–even eczema. The colloidal oatmeal in it soothes and antioxidants protect skin against the elements. A good layer of coconut oil on the skin also does wonders and really locks in that moisture.

LOAD UP ON EYE CREAM

The thinnest and most sensitive area on the face, this is the first place that can dry up fast. A concealer over the top will just emphasize the dryness instead of masking it–so it needs to be properly hydrated first. Apply a rich eye cream like Burt’s Bees Hydrating Eye Cream or Origins GinZing Eye Cream (for some added brightness) every morning and night to inject some much needed moisture and nutrients.

EXFOLIATE THAT DEAD SKIN, YO

All that dry skin accumulates and will sit on the surface–leaving it flaky and dull looking–unless you exfoliate. A good exfoliator will do your skin a world of good by removing excess skin to unveil the newer, softer skin beneath. Massage a gentle exfoliator like FRESH Sugar Face Polish into your face once a week and a nice body scrub like Soap and Glory Smoothie Star Breakfast Scrub for the shower. You can even easily make your own DIY Sugar Body Scrub straight from home.

SPORT A FACIAL OIL UNDER A HYDRATING FACE MASK

Put your hydrating face mask on overdrive by massaging a facial oil into your face before applying your mask. The oil will help give the mask an added surge of moisture for your skin and lock it in. I love the Glam Glow Hydrating Mask and Caudalie Divine Oil.
